Bag Care

Leather Care

We use a variety of leathers for NKHenry products, from goatskin to lambskin to cowhide but these general care tips apply to all leathers.

When cleaning soft leather like lambskin, take extra care as leather cleaners may actually strip the color from soft leathers when applied incorrectly. Leather conditioners tend to darken leathers especially soft or unfinished leathers.

General Cleaning

Use a leather cleaner for general cleaning such as Honey Leather leather cleaners and conditioners. Use a leather cleaner when you want to restore the lustre of the bag and/or clean stains and dirt. Follow the directions of the applied cleaner. Apply products to a cleaning cloth, never directly to the bag. Work in small sections. Let your bag air dry.

Conditioning

Conditioning is an optional step in leather care. Conditioners tend to soften any leather its applied to so keep this in mind before application.

Stain Removal

For oil based stains (food, makeup) blot with a dry cloth to absorb the oil, apply a small amount of corn starch, let it sit overnight to draw out the oils. Brush off the remaning cornstarch with a soft brush. Proceed to clean with an equal parts baby shampoo and water solution by damping the cloth wiping the stained area with short strokes. Finally dampen a clean cloth with water to remove the solution, again working in small sections using short strokes.

For ink stains on denim or canvas try the rubbing alcohol method (Google search) or consider using a stain remover product.
